Session 6:
2019-2020 Season

The season consists of 3- 10 week sessions. Participants must be in all 3 sessions to guarantee placement in the recital.
Session 1: September 16 – November 22
Session 2: December 2 – February 21 (No classes the week of December 23rd and December 30th)
Session 3: February 24 – May 8 (Spring Break off Either Week of March 16 or March 23)

Parent Observation:
Session 1: Week of November 18th
Session 2: Week of January 20th
Session 3: Week of March 9th   

Dress Rehearsal:
·        Friday, May 8th
·         4 pm – 8:30 pm
Recital:
·         Saturday, May 9th
·         10:30am and 3 pm

Important information!

The Rock Lake Dance Studio is run by dance instructors, Becca Lauber, Kimberley Kaminski, Paige Hoover, Allysun Gillham, Tessa Fitzsimmons and Jess Mlsna.  All are experienced dancers and dance instructors.  Their approach to dance is encouraging and supportive and always with the best interests of the child in mind.  Your child will develop skill in ballet, tap, jazz or hip hop as they progress through the program.  They will also develop poise, balance, flexibility, and self-confidence; but most importantly, a love of dance!
Dance is offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.
Returning students receive first consideration
New students will not be accepted after January 1st without instructor’s approval and may not be in able to participate in the recital
Please make note that classes are anywhere from 30 – 60 minutes long, pricing is set for class lengths

Ballet Slipper/Tap Shoe Trade:
Donate your old, slightly worn shoes to the dance studio in exchange for another pair, or purchase a pair of shoes for the low cost of $3/pair.  Selections and sizes are limited based on donations.

There are no multiple child discounts
Classes will be canceled if school is canceled / early release due to weather
Make-up classes will be arranged, only if three or more classes are canceled
No refunds for classes missed or dropped, except with a medical excuse
By enrolling your child in any Rock Lake Activity Center program, you give permission for RLAC to use pictures and/or videos of your child for marketing purposes on the website, fliers or in the newspaper Share your photos with the hashtag #rlacdance

Payments are due by the first class of each session
Each DAY that a payment is late, a $5 charge will be added
(Payments made one week late will have a $35 fee, etc.)

FINAL COSTUME PAYMENT DUE:                                                 January 20th -24th
**There will be an extra $5 processing fee for each costume due to new policies and charges from the costume companies

Descriptions:

Advanced - Jazz and Tap* -Becca
The first 30 minutes of this class will focus on Jazz only. More detailed steps, turns, leaps and combinations as well as a “fun” dance will start the year. For those students who are staying for the last 15 minutes, we will focus on more difficult rhythms and combinations, as well as slightly faster footwork. The students will learn and perfect 2 Jazz,  AND 1 Tap* Dance Routine for the recital. ***Those students for JAZZ ONLY will have a slightly reduced class fee. **An additional costume will be added to the final costume payment to cover the second costume.

Advanced Jazz/Hip Hop- Paige
This class will focus on Jazz and Hip Hop separately and students will perform two routines during the recital.  2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Advanced Lyrical/ Pointe 2-Becca
 ** POINTE SHOES WILL BE NEEDED ON THE 4th WEEK OF CLASSES!! ***

A letter will be mailed out in August regarding pointe shoe purchasing. Ballet shoes will also be needed for the lyrical part of this class.
This longer ballet class will start with 3 weeks of strengthening for pointe shoes and starting the 4th week of class we will “go up” on pointe.    The lyrical portion of class will continue to focus on greater flexibility, body and arm alignment, turns and leaps.  We will perfect a lyrical and pointe dance for the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Advanced Modern- Paige
Modern is an expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included elements not usually associated with dance such as speech and film. It is a dance form that allows the students to learn how to dance, but in a form that is less structured than ballet. 1 dance in the recital, 1 costume

Ballet 1/Creative Movement -Kimberley
Start the basics of dance by learning technique and expression through story. With the use of our imaginations and props we will learn fundamentals of ballet to emote and portray a story through dance while having a lot of fun and being creative. Students will learn and perfect a ballet dance infused with creative physical storytelling for the recital. An introduction to classical ballet concepts with emphasis placed on listening, following directions, mirroring, repetition, rhythm and patterns.  Emphasis on mastering 1st and 2nd position feet, demi plie, relleve, and 2 feet to 2 feet jumps.  Students will be introduced to the barre. 1 dance in the recital, 1 costume. Prop fee will be discussed between Kimberley and Parents

Ballet 2/Lyrical or Ballet 3/Lyrical- Kimberley
These classes will work on the technique and discipline of ballet with the story telling and emotions of lyrical. The students will learn and perfect a lyrical and a ballet dance for the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes. Prop fee will be discussed between Kimberley and Parents

Ballet/Tap 1, 2, 3- Allysun

Ballet and Tap 1, 2, and 3 is an exciting combo class where students interested in both ballet and tap can get both in one class! It includes 30 minutes of ballet and 15 minutes of tap. Students will learn both a ballet dance and a tap dance for the recital at the end of the year if they choose to! 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes.

Intermediate – Ballet/Lyrical Paige
We will focus on flexibility, turnout, body positioning, as well as new steps, leaps, and turns as we explore ballet dance. Students will learn and perfect a Ballet dance in the recital.  2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes


Intro to Ballet/Tap or Beginner Ballet/Tap- Tessa

Get an introduction to tap and ballet with this course. Students will learn and perfect a ballet dance and a tap dance for the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Jazz/ Hip Hop 1- Paige

This class will focus on Jazz and Hip Hop separately and students will perform two routines during the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes.

Musical Theatre Dance- Kimberley

This class will work on stage presence and performance of a musical number in the styles of musical theatre. The children will work on technique as well as ‘acting’ out the story with their movements and their bodies. Students will learn and perfect a Musical Theatre Piece for the recital.  1 dance in the recital, 1 costume. Prop fee will be discussed between Kimberley and Parents

Pre-Ballet -Jess/Tessa

Students will have fun learning basic steps and fundamental dance skills.  This class will introduce the dancer to the basics of ballet.  Students will learn grace in movement, body posture and placement, balance and flexibility.  1 dance in the recital, 1 costume.

Dress Code
Ballet/Lyrical: Pink leather ballet shoes and any color or style of leotard and/or tights, skirts are optional, but should be no longer than thigh length.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt with black leather ballet shoes. 
Tap: Black tap shoes and comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt.
Jazz: Black Jazz shoes and Jazz pants and/or leggings with a form fitted shirt.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts.
Jazz/Lyrical combined class must have tan jazz shoes.
 NO BAGGY SHORTS, NO JEANS!
 IF DRESS CODE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THE STUDENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT DAY’S CLASS.
