2018-2019 Season

​The season consists of 3- 10 week sessions. Participants must be in all 3 sessions to guarantee placement in the recital.

Session 1: September 10 – November 16

Session 2: November 26 – February 12 (No classes the week of December 25th and January 1st)

Session 3: February 19 – May 7 (No classes for Ms. Becca/Ms. Jess week of March 20th/No classes for Ms. Paige/Ms. Kimberley week of March 25th)
Make- Up/Snow Day week- May 6th-9th

Parent Observation:
Session 1: Week of October 22nd  
Session 2: Week of January 28th
Session 3: Week of March 11th   


Dress Rehearsal:
·         Friday, May 10th
·         4 pm – 8:30 pm
Recital:
·         Saturday, May 11th
·         10:30am and 3 pm

Payments are due by the first class of each session
Each DAY that a payment is late, a $5 charge will be added
(Payments made one week late will have a $35 fee, etc.)

On Blue Sombrero our prices listed are the full season price. Once you register you can choose the payment plan option to pay the session price at the beginning of each 10 week session. There are seperate classes for members versus non-members to make sure the correct price of the payment plans are available.

Descriptions:

Adult Contemporary- Kimberley
18 and older. Take 1 10 week session or take all 3 10 week sessions. This will not be in the recital, just a fun way to get your body moving and learn some dance skills while you are at it!

Advanced - Jazz and Tap* -Becca
The first 30 minutes of this class will focus on Jazz only. More detailed steps, turns, leaps and combinations as well as a “fun” dance will start the year. For those students who are staying for the last 15 minutes, we will focus on more difficult rhythms and combinations, as well as slightly faster footwork. The students will learn and perfect 1 Jazz, possibly 2 AND 1 Tap* Dance Routine for the recital. ***Those students for JAZZ ONLY will have a slightly reduced class fee. **An additional costume will be added to the final costume payment to cover the second costume.

Advanced Jazz/Hip Hop- Paige
This class will focus on Jazz and Hip Hop separately and students will perform two routines during the recital.  2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Ballet 1 -Kimberley
An introduction to classical ballet concepts with emphasis placed on listening, following directions, mirroring, repetition, rhythm and patterns.  Emphasis on mastering 1st and 2nd position feet, demi plie, relleve, and 2 feet to 2 feet jumps.  Students will be introduced to the barre. 1 dance in the recital, 1 costume.

 Ballet 2/Lyrical or Ballet 3/Lyrical- Kimberley
These classes will work on the technique and discipline of ballet with the story telling and emotions of lyrical. The students will learn and perfect a lyrical and a ballet dance for the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes.

Ballet/Tap 4- Becca
This class will build on the previous skills from Ballet 3, with more focus on proper technique, body and arm positioning, correct step names, new turn and leaps. We will also continue to build on steps, combinations, rhythms and start adding some turns in Tap. Fun review dances will start the year off and then around December we will learn and perfect a Ballet and Tap dance for the recital.2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes.

Creative Movement - Kimberley
Start the basics of dance by learning technique and expression through story. With the use of our imaginations and props we will learn fundamentals of ballet to emote and portray a story through dance while having a lot of fun and being creative. Students will learn and perfect a ballet dance infused with creative physical storytelling for the recital. 1 dance in the recital, 1 costume.

Intermediate – Ballet/Lyrical- Paige
Lyrical is a modern form of ballet mixed with a little bit of Jazz. Lyrical dances are danced to songs that make you feel something, therefore being the name lyrical since you listen to the lyrics.
We will focus on flexibility, turnout, body positioning, as well as new steps, leaps, and turns as we explore the lyrical style of ballet dance. Students will learn and perfect a Lyrical dance and a Ballet dance in the recital.  2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Intermediate - Jazz and Tap-Becca
New combinations, flexibility and jumps, and steps and turns will be the focus of this class. We will start the year with review dances and then learn and perfect a Jazz AND Tap routine for the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Jazz/ Hip Hop 1- Paige
This class will focus on Jazz and Hip Hop separately and students will perform two routines during the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes.

Modern Dance-Paige
Modern is an expressive style of dancing started in the early 20th century as a reaction to classical ballet. In recent years it has included elements not usually associated with dance such as speech and film. It is a dance form that allows the students to learn how to dance, but in a form that is less structured than ballet. 1 dance in the recital, 1 costume.

Musical Theatre Dance- Kimberley
This class will work on stage presence and performance of a musical number in the styles of musical theatre. The children will work on technique as well as ‘acting’ out the story with their movements and their bodies. Students will learn and perfect a Musical Theatre Piece for the recital.  1 dance in the recital, 1 costume.

Pointe 1/Lyrical-Becca
 ** POINTE SHOES WILL BE NEEDED ON THE 4th WEEK OF CLASSES!! ***
A letter will be mailed out in August regarding pointe shoe purchasing. Ballet shoes will also be needed for the lyrical part of this class.
This longer ballet class will start with 3 weeks of strengthening for pointe shoes and starting the 4th week of class we will “go up” on pointe.    The lyrical portion of class will continue to focus on greater flexibility, body and arm alignment, turns and leaps.  We will perfect a lyrical and pointe dance for the recital. 2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes

Pre-Ballet -Jess
Students will have fun learning basic steps and fundamental dance skills.  This class will introduce the dancer to the basics of ballet.  Students will learn grace in movement, body posture and placement, balance and flexibility.  1 dance in the recital, 1 costume.

Tap/Ballet 1- Becca
Combining the basics of Ballet and Tap, your child will learn basic technique in Ballet including barre, turns and center work as well as be introduced to the basic foot work and rhythm of Tap. Students will practice these basics starting with “fun” dances and then starting in Dec/Jan will learn and perfect a Tap and Ballet dance for the recital.  2 dances in the recital, 2 costumes.

 
Dress Code

Ballet/Lyrical: Pink leather ballet shoes and any color or style of leotard and/or tights, skirts are optional, but should be no longer than thigh length.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt with black leather ballet shoes. 
Tap: Black tap shoes and comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts and shirt.
Jazz: Black Jazz shoes and Jazz pants and/or leggings with a form fitted shirt.  Boys should wear any color non-baggy shorts.
Jazz/Lyrical combined class must have tan jazz shoes.
 NO BAGGY SHORTS, NO JEANS!

 IF DRESS CODE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THE STUDENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT DAYS CLASS.
